LA LECHE LEAGUE CONFERENCE COVENTRY FRIDAY 14TH & SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER

This year's National Conference will take place in the Britannia Hotel Coventry CV1 5RP on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th October - the main programme is outlined below.  The two day conference rates for LLL members is £60 until the end of September or £70 on the door (£80 for non-members and £90 on the door).  Day rates are £40/£50 in advance or ££50/£60 on the door (members/non-members).  Families are of course welcome (dad's/grannies etc to mind older kids) - it looks like being a great couple of days and we hope to see some of you there!

Pamela Morrison  Weights, analysis, gain patterns, supplementation (mother’s milk/formula/nutri-prem).  Techniques to preserve breastfeeding and maintain weight gain in a fragile or vulnerable baby.





11.15-12.15  Regulating Infant Formula
Expanding on his GOLD 11 presentation, George Kent explores how flaws in governments' regulation of infant formula systematically protect formula manufacturers while exposing infants to excessive risk.

Marian Tompson  Our keynote speaker takes us through the inception, development and successes of the fight to allow mothers to make informed choices about HIV status and breastfeeding.




14.45-15.45  Panel Discussion : Lactaphobia in Medical & Care Settings
Chair:  Dr Gareth Tudor-Williams.  What to do/how to approach professionals who are fearful and/or misinformed about mother’s milk and breastfeeding. 



16.00-1700  Celebrating Success     LLLLeaders
3 case studies on dyads who succeeded despite initial problems.  A brief outline of the issues, challenges and co-operation that eventually resulted in a happy and secure breastfeeding relationship for Mum & Baby.

Reedy Hicky Strategies and suggestions on how to overcome the avalanche of information and messages women are often swamped by in the last few months of pregnancy and the first few weeks of breastfeeding.




16.00-1700  Heat Treating Mother’s Milk
Pamela Morrison  For when direct breastfeeding isn’t feasible but treated mother’s milk can still be given to the baby.  An overview of current research and procedures.
