12 Decmber 2008: The Art of Breastfeeding Through The Holidays

This Friday's Series Meeting is on 12th December 2008. The topic of this month's meeting is The Art of Breastfeeding Through the Holidays. The holiday season is a joyous time but can be fraught with errands and engagements. Throw a new baby or a newly adventurous toddler into the mix and it can be quite a balancing act. This month we'll be talking about all the challenges that may come your way from drinking and breastfeeding to handling Aunt Edna's stern advice on how to raise a baby, and how some mothers have learned to cope with all that life demands. As this is the last meeting before the New Year, we'll be allowing extra time for merrymaking and chatting. And of course, LLL Leaders will be there too to answer any questions or concerns you might have. We do hope you'll join us.

Series Meetings are meetings designed with a theme or topic in mind. We'll either post the topic or send out an email a few days before the meeting. (See previous posts for examples of previous topics.) There is also plenty of time for general discussion relating to breastfeeding or parenting in general, meeting other mothers and speaking to a La Leche League Leader about any questions or concerns you might have.

Coffee Mornings are more informal gatherings which provide an opportunity to again speak to a LLL Leader and/or chat with other mothers in your area who are sharing a common experience.
Both meetings are friendly, confidential, and open to all mothers, soon-to-be mothers and children (breastfeeding or not!).

In addition to the meetings we also have a Lending Library of parenting and breastfeeding books to borrow and baby slings for you to try on and/or borrow.

10 October 2008: Expectations vs Reality of Motherhood

The theme for this month's meeting is Expectations vs. the Reality of Motherhood. Some mothers find that their idea of how the first year with Baby was going to be is turning out to be much different than what they expected. Come and hear mothers' stories of their first weeks and months of motherhood and how they learned to cope (and enjoy) the every day surprises of having a baby in the house. As always, there will be plenty of time to discuss any questions or concerns you might have, speak with an LLL Leader and meet other breastfeeding/pregnant mothers.

LLL West London now meeting bi-monthly!

From September, LLL West London will be hosting coffee mornings on the 2nd Wednesday following the regular Friday LLL Series Meeting. This will be a more informal meeting for mothers to get together and chat, have their questions answered and share their wisdom! There will still be lots of breastfeeding and parenting information on hand and the lending library will also be available. A LLL Leader will also be there to provide information and support should you need it.

September Meeting: The Advantages of Breastfeeding

Please join LLL West London in September when we'll be discussing how breastfeeding protects you and your baby. Most of us agree with the notion that "Breast is best" but have you ever considered the science and research behind the headlines? You may be surprised to learn just how amazing your commitment to breastfeeding really is! If you're pregnant or know someone who is, this might be a great opportunity for them to come along as well. There will also be plenty of time for some general discussion for any questions and concerns that you may have and for chatting with other mothers.

August Meeting: Baby-led breastfeeding, Baby-led weaning

Please join LLL West London in August when we'll be watching Dr. Christina Smillie's new dvd Baby-led Breastfeeding . . . The Mother-Baby Dance. It explores the amazing ability of newborns to latch onto their mother's breast. We will also be discussing nutrition and the introduction of solids.

LLL West London: Up and Running!

LLL West London is gaining momentum with great attendance by mothers from all over West London.

We meet on the second Friday of the month to discuss issues relating to breastfeeding including nighttime parenting, nutrition, common breastfeeding challenges and friendly mother-to-mother support.
